About

Miss Rahman holds a substantive consultant post at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust where she is the clinical Lead for the Cataract and Uveitis Services.  Miss Rahman has set up the Uveitis Service incorporating pathways for local management of complex cases involving ocular inflammation to ensure that treatment of sight threatening disease is not delayed. She has previously led the Macula Service and the Acute Eye Service.

Miss Rahman graduated in Medicine (MBChB) from the University of Leeds and also obtained a First-Class Honors for an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology. She is one of few ophthalmologists to also hold a Master of Science degree with distinction in the Biology of Vision from the world-leading UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. She has published and presented her work internationally. She has a wealth of experience having undertaken her postgraduate ophthalmology training in London, at some of the most prestigious centres in the UK, including Moorfield’s Eye Hospital and major trauma centres at Imperial and Barts Health NHS Trusts. She subsequently pursued two competitive fellowships at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital gaining high-level expertise in tertiary retinal and inflammatory eye disease.  Miss Rahman undertakes both routine and complex cataract surgery in patients with retinal, macular and uveitic comorbidities.

With her passion for providing excellence in care and ensuring accountability within the healthcare system, Miss Rahman was invited to join the Eye-Law Chambers group, leading in high quality medicolegal services exclusively for eye and vision-related cases. She is a Bond-Solon certified expert witness and provides expert medico-legal reports for claimant and defendant cases, covering matters such as delayed or missed diagnoses, surgical outcomes and ophthalmic trauma.

Miss Rahman enjoys and excels in being a surgical trainer for junior ophthalmologists and has received recognition for this through a Trust Education Award for excellence in pastoral care and teaching. She also has a deep interest in charitable work and has undertaken voluntary work in the developing world where she hopes to provide further help and education in the future.

She is passionate about maximising quality of life through effective treatment of macular and retinal pathologies. With very few ophthalmologists in the region offering specialist care for inflammatory eye disease, she takes a holistic approach with particular attention to patient concerns and tailors individualised care including appropriate blood tests and investigations. She is well-known for her dedication to patients and compassionate care.

‘The eye is the window to health’. Miss Rahman also takes into account lifestyle and
promotes wellbeing as a key to longevity and optimal vision.

After undertaking her ophthalmic training in London, Miss Rahman has settled in the suburbs to enjoy life with her young family.
