Am I a good candidate for laser eye surgery?
Good candidates are typically aged 21 or over, with a stable prescription for at least two years, sufficient corneal thickness, and no significant eye health conditions. Patients with very high prescriptions, thin corneas, or dry eye disease may be better suited to alternative treatments such as Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL). A thorough assessment at our Kingston clinic will determine your suitability.
Is laser eye surgery permanent?
The corneal changes made during laser vision correction are permanent. However, as the natural lens inside the eye continues to age, most patients over 45 will eventually develop presbyopia (difficulty with near vision), which may require reading glasses. The procedure does not protect against natural age-related vision changes, but the correction itself is lasting.
How long does the procedure take and when can I drive afterwards?
The laser treatment itself typically takes only 10 to 15 minutes per eye, although your appointment will be longer to allow for preparation and post-procedure monitoring. Most patients should not drive on the day of surgery. LASIK patients can often drive within 24 to 48 hours once vision has stabilised; LASEK patients may need five to seven days. Your surgeon will advise you specifically.

Is laser eye surgery suitable if I have had it before?
If you have had previous laser eye surgery and your vision has regressed or changed, an enhancement procedure may be possible depending on residual corneal thickness and other factors. Alternatively, patients who have had prior laser correction are often excellent candidates for the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) at our Kingston clinic if they later develop cataracts.
